Claiming PIP happens in a few stages. This tool walks you through each one, and you can stop and come back whenever you need to — your progress is saved on this device.
- Check — a few questions to see if you might qualify. This is guidance, not a decision.
- Letter — a short letter to start your claim by post. The DWP then sends you the PIP1 form.
- PIP1 form — basic details about you. You fill it in and send it back.
- PIP2 form — “How your disability affects you”. This is the important one, and there is usually an assessment afterwards (by phone, video, in person, or on paper).
- Result — the DWP’s decision. If you disagree, you can ask them to look again, then appeal.
Be prepared for it to take time — often three to six months from start to decision. Take it one step at a time; there is no rush.
